INDIANAPOLIS — An Indianapolis hospital is using new technology to make it easier for paramedics to get vital information to doctors before an ambulance arrives at the emergency room.

Franciscan Health is the first hospital in Indianapolis to use the new app, called Twiage.

The app allows paramedics to send important information, photos or videos, and patient identification straight to the ER from the ambulance, so it's already in their system when the patient arrives.

"Instead of taking time, two minutes even, on the phone or on the radio - now it just takes them 20 or 30 seconds to send it, and they're done," said EMS Liason Jon Kavanagh.

Once that information is sent, it's deleted and not retrievable again, meaning the app is also HIPPA compliant.

Kavanagh says other hospitals have reached out to inquire about the new app and he's hopeful that the technology will soon become mainstream.
