BAKERSFIELD, Calif. — This week Bakersfield College will host a hiring session for the Amazon fulfillment center. 23ABC's Daniela Garrido looked at what the opportunity entails.

This Wednesday will be the first hiring session hosted by Bakersfield College to help prepare those interested in a job with Amazon at the fulfillment center in Bakersfield. The facility is looking to hire over 3,000 new employees.

"We've partnered up with Amazon to bring as many individuals into these hiring sessions so they can learn about the hiring process, the recruitment process, how to apply, and the benefits amazon offers," explained Carlos Medina of Bakersfield College.

The college will host an informational session for anyone interested in learning about the hiring process and the roles available for the facility.

"Starting wage is $15 per hour and they offer full time or part time," added Medina. "This will be great for our students because it can work around their schedule but it will help individuals in the community out of work"

The event will focus on the associate positions this summer.

"They work on moving product on the trucks, lines, or belt," said Medina.

The hiring session will provide future applicants with all the information necessary for them to be fully prepared for the application launch.

"They don't have an exact date on when the application will launch but usually when they launch they reach capacity the morning of or the day after"

According to Bakersfield College, the hiring process for these positions will begin in mid-July.

"You have to be prepared and ready and pretty much they have a system where they will send you a message when the application goes live online," said Medina.

If you're interested in attending the virtual hiring session, you will need to register ahead of time.

"Pre-registration is required. Go to the BC main web page, go to the Events tab and click on the Amazon date and fill that out to be admitted into the webinar session," explained Medina.

According to Bakersfield College, 1,700 people have already registered for the event. Although there isn't a capacity limit, they are asking everyone to register ahead of time.
