The Bakersfield Police Department will increase its enforcement of seat belt laws on Monday as part of the annual "Click It or Ticket" campaign.
The campaign will run through Sunday, June 3, which includes Memorial Day Weekend.
According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, nearly half of people killed in crashes in 2016 were unrestrained.
BPD, KCSO and CHP will be taking a "no-excuses" approach to seat belt law enforcement. In California, the minimum penalty for a seat belt violation is $162.00.
