UPDATE (Nov. 14, 1:46 p.m.): Highway 204 is now open at Q Street, according to Sergeant Gary Carruesco of the Bakersfield Police Department.
========================================
Bakersfield police have closed off the intersection of Highway 204 and Q Street while they investigate a crash that killed one person on November 14.
BPD says at 4:30 a.m., a man was reportedly acting strange on a construction site near Union Avenue and Monterey Street. Workers at the site said the man was throwing safety cones into the road and was possibly under the influence.
Police say minutes later, the man stole a vehicle from the site.
BPD says they attempted to stop the man, but he drove off leading to a short pursuit into downtown Bakersfield.
During that pursuit, the man ran a red light at the intersection of Highway 204 and Q Street, where he was hit by two oncoming semi trucks.
Police say the man died from injuries sustained in the accident. He has not been identified.
One of the semi truck drivers was taken to the hospital where he is being treated for moderate injuries. Police say the other suffered no injuries.
BPD says the intersection will be closed until noon today while they continue their investigation.
