An 11-year-old boy was struck by a car Tuesday evening near Jefferson Elementary School.

The boy who was crossing the street from a park area did not use a cross walk according to police and attempted to run across the road.

As he attempted to cross, he did not yield to traffic and was struck by a car that saw him at the last minute. The car, heading northbound slammed on their brakes but did not have enough time to stop and struck the 11-year-old.

Police said that the boy was responsive when police arrived on scene and was transported to Kern Medical. He is in stable condition. Police also said that it is no fault of the driver at this time, but CHP will investigate.
