BAKERSFIELD, Calif. — An 18-year-old and 16-year-old were arrested after crashing a stolen vehicle in Wasco on Wednesday.
According to the Kern County Sheriff's Office, around 08:45 a.m., deputies from the Wasco Substation spotted a car driving "recklessly" near the area of Broadway Avenue and 5th Street. Deputies lost sight of the car but were able to eventually locate it abandoned after it crashed into a residential fence on 5th Street.
After finding the car, officials spotted Daniel Malanche and another male juvenile running from the area. The two suspects led deputies on a brief foot chase before they were arrested.
An investigation revealed that the car the two suspects were driving was reported stolen out of Bakersfield. Deputies also found marijuana and evidence of marijuana sales inside the car.
Malanche was booked into the Kern County Jail for grand theft auto, possession of a stolen vehicle, gang participation, possession of marijuana for sale, possession of an imitation firearm, and resisting or delaying a peace officer. The 16-year-old juvenile was booked into Juvenile Hall for his involvement.
