(UPDATE 11/30): The Kern County Coroner has identified Esteban Sanchez Jr., 19, as the man killed in Sunday’s crash.

A two-vehicle crash has killed at least one person in Southwest Bakersfield early this morning.

According to the California Highway Patrol, at about 2:30 Sunday morning a 19-year-old driver drifted off the roadway and overturned within the eastbound lane at Panama Lane and Highway 43.

The vehicle landed on its roof and 20 minutes later a Toyota Camry collided into that vehicle at an unknown speed.

CHP said the 19-year-old man of the initial crash was not wearing a seatbelt and he died at the scene.

Police said neither alcohol or drugs appear to be a factor in either of these crashes.

According to CHP the other driver was taken to a local hospital with major injuries.
