BAKERSFIELD, Calif. — Drivers planning to travel in the area of 23rd and D streets in Central Bakersfield will need to find an alternate route this weekend.
The contractor for the 24th Street Improvement Project needs an around-the-clock closure of the 23rd and D streets intersection to replace the existing drainage pipe with a new 48-inch pipe.
Crews said the drainage system is located some 17 feet below the street’s surface, “and a full weekend closure is needed to provide adequate time for the contractor to complete the work.”
The closure will start at 8 p.m. on Friday, December 14, and last through 5 a.m. on Monday, December 17.
During this time, eastbound traffic will be directed south on Oak Street to Truxtun Avenue. From Truxtun Avenue, motorists can head north on F Street to reconnect with 23rd Street.
Meanwhile, westbound traffic can continue to use 24th Street while the work is underway.
The pipe replacement work may be canceled or rescheduled without notice due to inclement weather or other unforeseen circumstances.
