===================================

It's the single biggest day of giving in Kern County - Give Big Kern.

Local non-profits and charities will team up in an effort to get members of the community to donate their time or their money.

Organizers say Give Big Kern "is designed to bring the county together as one community, raising dollars and volunteer hours for local nonprofits through a single 24-hour crowd funding campaign."

Last year, the first year of the event, Give Big Kern raised $176,957 which was distributed to participating nonprofits. Also, 73,899 volunteer hours were pledged to nonprofit participants.

This year, organizers are hoping to get 8,000 people to volunteer their time for local charities.
