28th annual Relay for Life raised over $556,000

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. — The 28th annual Relay for Life numbers are in and as of last checked, the event raised $556,468. The event was held on May 4-5 at the Kern County Fairgrounds.

There was 126 teams at this year's event, close to 1,600 participants, over 850 survivors, 4,112 visitors, and 272 volunteers.

The top three teams were Aera Energy with $55,878 raised, Stella Hills Basket Cases with $43,695 raised and Striking Out Cancer with $35,959 raised.

The US Postal Service Family & Friends, Imagine a World Without Cancer, Bob Miller & Friends, Survivor Bakersfield, GrayCor Construction, Kern Schools Federal Credit Union and Bimat Bulldogs also broke the top ten in funds raised.

The top five individual fundraisers were Sandy Brown with $32,953, Jean Browning, Marsha Weimer, Kathy Bess, and Scottie Miller.
