(UPDATE: October 4, 2018 3:29 p.m.) On Thursday, October 4 an injury crash was reported on NB 99 north of Merle Haggard Drive.

Following a preliminary investigation, officials said that the pedestrian was walking northbound on the 99 on the right shoulder. Officials say that Oscar Diaz, 29, was driving his Dodge Ram northbound in the #2 lane approaching the pedestrian. Juan Sosa, 37, was traveling directly behind Diaz and Maria Isabel Armas, 43, was traveling northbound behind Sosa in the #1 lane.

Officials said that as Diaz approached the pedestrian, she walked directly into his path and Diaz was unable to stop in time and struck her. The sudden braking and swerving caused a chain reaction crash between the four vehicles. This caused all of the northbound lanes to be blocked.

Officials said that a total of ten people were injured, with the most serious being the pedestrian.

It is unknown at this time if alcohol or drugs played a role in the crash. At this time, officials do not have an identity for the pedestrian.
