Bakersfield Fire Department crews had to use the jaws of life to rescue two people trapped in a crash in Central Bakersfield on Thursday.
BFD officials said at around 1:19 p.m, a standard rescue response from the BFD responded to a three vehicle collision on Brundage Lane including 2 Engines, 1 Truck, 1 Battalion Commander and assisting agencies (BPD, Hall Ambulance).
First arriving BFD units reported a three vehicle collision with at least four patients, with two patients pinned-in. BFD Engine Company Firefighters assessed the patients and deployed hoselines for potential fire control.
Officials said that the BFD Truck Company Firefighters stabilized the vehicles and used the “Jaws-of-Life” and other hydraulic rescue tools to extricate the victims.
BFD Incident Commanders made a “Med-Alert” notification to local hospitals via the Emergency Communications Center (ECC).
Officials said that additional ambulance units were requested and the patients were transported to a local hospital via Hall Ambulance.
