On Tuesday, December 6, 2016, around 8:00 p.m., Porterville police officers went to the scene of where a vehicle ran into a pedestrian on Plano Street, just north of Poplar Avenue.

 

38-year-old Rogelio Marquez was driving south on Plano Street near Chase Avenue when 41-year-old Vivian Gomez ran right in front of Marquez's car. He was unable to stop in time and hit Gomez. Marquez stopped his car and stayed with Gomez until medical aid arrived. 

 

Gomez was transported to a local hospital where he died from his injuries.

 

Marquez did not show any signs of drug or alcohol use and was fully cooperative with the investigation.
