The 2017 Scripps National Spelling Bee will air live from the Gaylord National near Washington D.C. on May 31 and June 1.

Briandria Starks from Valley Oaks Charter School will represent Kern County at the event.

She’s a seventh grader homeschooled through Valley Oaks Charter School.

She has been studying non-stop learning the spelling and definitions of more than 400 words.
