BAKERSFIELD, Calif. — Kern County Fire crews were able to put out a small house fire in East Bakersfield overnight.

Officials say they were notified of flames coming from an abandoned home on East California Avenue just west of Mount Vernon Avenue around 2:45 a.m. this morning.

Early reports indicated the flames were threatening a mechanic's shop next door, but firefighters were able to quickly control the flames. Crews then spent time tearing holes in the wall to ventilate.

There was no one on-scene when crews arrived and no injuries reported.
