UPDATE (October 19, 2017 2:10 p.m.): On the morning of October 18, 2017 there were two accidents on Highway 58 near Boron Rest Stop.

The first accident happened just before 6:30 a.m., there was a two tractor trailer combination crash eastbound Highway 58 just west of Borax Rd. Because of the collision both trucks caught on fire and one of the people inside sustained major injuries.

Due to the accident there were hazardous materials left on the ground, but the scene was later cleared and traffic resumed back to normal later in the day.

The second accident happened around 7 a.m. when a 27-year-old man driving a 2012 freightliner panel truck was traveling westbound on Highway 58 just west of Borax Rd. A 2007 Toyota FJ Cruiser carrying a 74-year-old man and a 64-year-old woman were just ahead of the truck when the man failed to brake and crashed into them.

The crash caused the Toyota FJ Cruiser to go onto the north dirt shoulder. Both people in the Toyota FJ Cruiser sustained fatal injuries.

It was determined that both drugs and alcohol did not play a factor in the second accident.

Both accidents are still under investigation.
