The American Civil Liberties Union is saying actions by the Kern County Board of Supervisors are a violation of the First Amendment.

The Southern California chapter of the ACLU sent a letter to the supervisors to urge them to reconsider their refusal to award contracts to the organizations Building Healthy Communities Kern and Adelante Strategies.

The board refused to ratify the contracts because Building Healthy Communities in the past had shared unrelated statements on social media about defunding the police.

The letter further states that if the situation is not remedied the ACLU would consider "all possible legal avenues to right this constitutional wrong."
