BAKERSFIELD, Calif. — UPDATE: Just after 5:30 p.m., CHP was able to open up all lanes of I-5 with the exception of the slow lane on the northbound side.
The California Highway Patrol shut down all lanes at the base of the Grapevine on Interstate 5 Sunday evening.
CHP said a semi truck lost its brakes, which started a fire. It happened across from the scales that are just north of Grapevine Road.
As of just after 5 p.m. Sunday, CHP said all lanes of northbound and southbound I-5 would be closed. It's unclear if it will be a short-term or long-term closure.
