BAKERSFIELD, CA. (KERO) — Bakersfield Fire is currently investigating a reported ammonia leak at Crystal Geyser Water in East Bakersfield.

The call came in around 4:30 pm Tuesday. The location of the building is by California Ave and MLK Blvd.

BFD says the smell of ammonia made its way outside of the building and not only forced an evacuation of the facility, but several nearby apartments.

However, workers inside acted quickly and isolated the leak. No injuries were reported.

Ammonia is a chemical that is toxic to breathe and can burn your skin.

It is advised to avoid the area. BFD doesn't expect any more evacuations but says crews are still working to fix the leak.
