BAKERSFIELD, Calif. — Friday is Juneteenth, the day that marked the end of slavery in the United States, and Bakersfield College has been holding events in honor leading up to Friday.

BC held another event Wednesday evening, hosted by the college and local radio show host Danny Morrison.

Morrison was joined by supervisor Leticia Perez, former Police Chief and Chief District Attorney Investigator Lyle Martin and local Assemblymember Vince Fong.

They discussed the impact of George Floyd's death and the protests that have taken place around the nation.

And ABC News announced it will present a primetime special to commemorate Juneteenth.

The special will examine its symbolism among the black community and around the nation.

It will be led by a team of ABC News anchors and correspondents, such as "ABC News Live Prime" anchor Linsey Davis and "Nightline" co-anchor Byron Pitts.

You can see that special here on 23ABC this Friday at 8 p.m.
