All around the nation, including right here in Kern County, Americans are preparing to honor our more than 18 million military veterans.

Thousands of people are expected to be at the annual Veterans Day Parade in downtown Bakersfield. The parade starts at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Nov. 11 at the corner of 21st and L Streets. It then heads west before turning south on G Sreet, heading back east on 20th Street before coming to an end at M Street.

Veterans Day was first recognized in 1919 following World War I. Ever since, the day has been set aside to honor those who have served their country.
