and last updated

Bakersfield Fire officials say squatters may be to blame for a fire that broke out in Central Bakersfield on Wednesday morning.

According to Anthony Galagaza with the Bakersfield Fire Department, an abandoned home caught fire around 8 a.m.

Galagaza says the home was boarded up, but believes squatters may have possibly been inside.

Arson investigators are working to determine the cause.

No one was inside at the time of the fire and no one was hurt.

The blaze caused about $85,000 in damage.
