BAKERSFIELD, Calif. — Are you ready when the next natural disaster hits? The Kern County chapter of the Red Cross is working to make sure that you are prepared.

Saturday the Red Cross is hosting Be Red Cross Ready presentation at Valley Baptist Church Fellowship Hall at 4800 Fruitvale Avenue. The event is from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m.

Cindy Huge, who is Kern County Red Cross chapter's public information officer, said, during the event they will go over disaster preparedness. She said the best things you can do today to be ready is create a disaster bag for your home and cars. Inside those bags you should have water, non-perishable food, medication, batteries, clothes and other supplies for yourself, children, families members and pets.

Huge also encourages people to create a disaster plan for yourself and your family. Know where you would go in case of an emergency, who you can call and what you and your family should do. Then practice that plan so you know it when the disaster hits.

If you would like more information about the Red Cross, how to volunteer/donate or what your need in case of a disaster, visit their website.
