The cause of a mattress fire that broke out in Central Bakersfield Thursday morning was determined as arson.

Bakersfield Fire Department responded to a standard alarm at 1303 S. Street around 9:18 a.m. for a mattress fire inside of a structure.

One person was placed in custody.
