Asher Street Market in Taft is closed after it failed a health inspection, according to Kern County Public Health's website.
The market got a score of 68% and closed on Friday. The site says there were multiple violations observed, including ambient air temperature in a walk-in cooler and heavy buildup of a slimy black residue on soda dispenser nozzles.
Various potentially hazardous foods including milk, whipped cream, jello and deli meats were observed being held above 50 degrees in a walk-in cooler. The report also said the market lacks an approved dish washing sink.
It's unclear when the market will reopen.
