Assemblymember Rudy Salas (D-Bakersfield) wrote a letter to the California Department of Transportation urging to expedite adequate safety measures following an accident at Foothill High School earlier this week.
He released the following statement on the incident:
"My thoughts are with those that have been affected by these tragedies. I have written a letter to CalTrans to get answers on what is being done at this intersection to ensure our kids are safe," said Assemblymember Salas. “I am confident that steps will be taken and am looking forward to working with CalTrans and the community to fix this."
A Foothill HS student suffered major injuries earlier this week after being hit by a driver on Highway 184.
Two other Foothill students were hit by a distracted driver at the same crosswalk in 2014.
The intersection reportedly has faded crosswalk markings and inadequate safety precautions.
