UPDATE (5/17): One person has been arrested on a DUI charge in a crash on southbound Highway 99 in which one person was killed Thursday night, California Highway Patrol confirmed to 23ABC News.

CHP says Efrain Echevarria, 22, was arrested on felony DUI and Gross Vehicular Manslaughter charges.

The Kern County Coroner's Office says Victor Hugo Garay, Jr., 30, was killed in the wreck on the 99 just north of Palm Street in Bakersfield. The crash happened around 11 p.m. Thursday.

CHP says Echevarria was driving with Garay a passenger. Investigators say Echevarria made an "unsafe turning movement" while intoxicated and the vehicle then left the road and hit a dirt embankment on the west shoulder.

The vehicle then rolled over and landed on its roof in one of the lanes.

Both Echevarria and Garay were wearing their seatbelts, according to CHP. Garay died at the scene. Echevarria was taken to the hospital for injuries suffered in the crash and was later.

He's expected in court for an arraignment on Monday, May 20 at 3 p.m.

UPDATE (1 p.m., 5/17):
Echevarria was also arrested on three other outstanding warrants for several misdemeanor charges, including two for driving without a license, one for driving on a suspended or revoked license, two charges for an unregistered vehicle, and driving without insurance.

Echevarria is scheduled to be arraigned on those charges on Tuesday, May 21 at 1:30 p.m.
