The California Highway Patrol said a flat tire was the cause of a deadly crash off Highway 58 near Bena Road just after 4 a.m. Thursday morning.

The CHP said a car on the 58 got a flat tire leading to sparks coming from an exposed rim. The driver lost control of the car and it went off the road overturning in a field.

The car caught fire burning about a half-acre in the area.

The driver was pronounced dead at the scene.
