According to the California Highway Patrol, one person was killed when truck collided with a semi on southbound 99 Tuesday night.

In a report released by the CHP, Fracisco Sanchez, 65, was driving at a "high rate of speed" when his 2010 Isuzu truck collided with a semi that had slowed due to traffic just north of the Palm Street overpass. The crash trapped Sanchez and his passenger inside their vehicle.

The Bakersfield Fire Department responded to the accident and were able to rescue Sanchez from his vehicle. His passenger, a 29-year-old man from Bakersfield was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver of the semi, 34-year-old Gurpal Singh and his passenger were not injured in the accident.

The accident is still under investigation, but alcohol and drugs do not appear to have been a factor in the accident.
