A male driver was killed in a crash on Interstate 5 Thursday morning.
According to the California Highway Patrol, he was driving a Kia Optima just after 5 a.m. on the Northbound I-5, just south of Seventh Standard Road, when he rear ended a big rig.
CHP reported that the Kia was driving at high rates of speed between 80 to 100 miles per hour. Officials said the big rig had just entered the I-5 from the rest stop and was only driving around 45 mph.
The driver of the Kia was pronounced dead at the scene.
Heavy fog was also a factor in the crash.
