Custom cakes, colossal cookies, cute cupcakes and more are found at a family-run bake shop in Bakersfield.

But this bakery is more than meets the eye.

Byrdie's Bake Shop, created in necessity by a stay-at-home mom, brought passion into reality. Owner Brandee always loved baking, but when her family fell on hard times, she needed a way to make money.

Now a year later, Byrdie's is thriving and Brandee continues to bake custom creations out of love.

Not only can you order a unique and delicious cake, you can also walk in to pick from various treats.

Champagne cupcakes, 1/4 pound cookies, brownies, tarts, and more line the shelves, with a smell of cheese and bread filling the air. Byrdie's also selling savory items like turnovers, quiche, and biscuits and gravy (only on Friday and Saturday).

Brandee also wants customers to know that everything is made from scratch with fresh ingredients for the best possibly quality and flavor.
