Coroner: baby dies of septic shock

The coroner released the cause of death Monday for a baby girl whose parents are facing four felony charges of willful cruelty to a child.

The report concluded that three-month old Aylin Bautista died of bacterial septic shock.

On December 20th, 2015, Kern County Sheriff’ deputies responded to Memorial Hospital in Bakersfield regarding a report of child abuse which had occurred in the 600 block of Curtis Drive.

The child was transported to Valley Children's Hospital where she later died.

The baby's mother, 21-year-old Erika Cervantes and father, 24-year-old Jesus Bautista were arrested.

23ABC was unable to reach the Deputy District Attorney on whether the report will change the current charges. The couple is expected to be in court on April 20th.
