A Farmer Boys restaurant in Southwest Bakersfield is closed due to concerns about cockroaches, public health officials said Monday.

According to results from an inspection by the Kern County Health Department on Monday, inspectors "observed live cockroaches under stove unit... steam table and freezer unit."

Inspectors also said they found a "great amount of debris on floor", a "dirty can opener in food preparation area," and "failed to demonstration (sic) the basic knowledge of sanitation," the report said.

The restaurant at 5544 California Avenue failed the inspection, earning only 58 percent.
