BAKERSFIELD, Calif. — City fire crews got the jump on a small building fire that started in a tree. Nearly a dozen resources were called out to the back of a home on 8th and K Streets just before 3 a.m. to reports of a house on fire.
When they arrived they found a tree that was set on fire. That was beginning to spread to a small attached room to the back of the house.
Officials say the converted space was not occupied at the time. Nearby homes were evacuated as a precaution. No one was injured.
Due to the location in a residential area numerous engines, and two battalion chiefs responded to this call. The cause of the fire is unknown.
