The Bakersfield Fire Department responded to reports of a structure fire on Elcia Dr and S Real Rd this morning.

Reports suggest the structure is an abandoned apartment complex.

Bakersfield Fire Chief Turner says arson investigators will assess the scene. The fire is believed to have been started by squatters who connected a propane gas tank to a natural gas water heater.
