Bakersfield firefighters rescue pets from Actis St. house fire

According to Battalion Chief Mike Lencioni, crews arrived in the 3400 block of Actis St in Southwest Bakersfield to find a home with visible smoke and flames coming from the building's roof.

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. — Bakersfield Fire Department crews battled a house fire on Actis St. on Monday evening.

According to Battalion Chief Mike Lencioni, crews arrived in the 3400 block of Actis St in Southwest Bakersfield to find a home with visible smoke and flames coming from the building's roof.

The homeowners, who were not at home at the time of the fire, arrived shortly after and informed crews that there were pets inside the home. Firefighters were able to rescue pets from the home, including the family's Shih Tzu dog that was found in the master bedroom.

One firefighter suffered minor injuries fighting the blaze which took about 15 minutes to extinguish,

The cause of the blaze is unknown at this time, but is believed to have begun in the kitchen. An investigation into the cause is ongoing.
