Bakersfield High to hold special 9/11 tribute Wednesday

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. — Bakersfield High School is scheduled to hold a special tribute for September 11 this Wednesday.

Below is the high school's full schedule of events including the national anthem and wreath placing.

  • 7:40 a.m. – Announcement over PA system to invite classes to the Elm Grove area to watch the BHS 9/11 Memorial Tribute.
  • 7:58 a.m. – Color Guard posts the colors at half-staff, and the school student body will stand for the singing of the National Anthem.
  • 8:00 a.m. – Principal Ben Sherley begins a tribute to 9/11 victims and their families. ROTC cadets will place a wreath in front of the flagpole.
  • 8:03 a.m. – Mr. Sherley concludes the tribute, and will ask students to stand for a moment of silence followed by the playing of Taps.
  • 8:05 a.m. – Students return to class.  ROTC students will march the rest of the day, similar to the march at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier in Arlington, Virginia.
