On March 28, 2016, 28-year-old Brandon James Long was assaulted at the Long Branch Saloon at 907 N. Chester Avenue.

The following day he began experiencing medical complications and was transported by ambulance to the San Joaquin Hospital for treatment. His condition got worse, and he was pronounced deceased on April 4, 2016.

After a postmortem exam and further testing, his cause of death was determined to be traumatic blunt force head injury and his manner of death was determined to be homicide.
