Posted

On September 18, 2017 at 7:21 p.m., officers with the Bakersfield Police Department responded to Belle Terrace and Nimrod Court for a report of a robbery that had just occurred.

The victim told officers that a vehicle stopped at the intersection, at which time the passenger exited the vehicle, pointed a firearm at him and demanded currency.

After obtaining the loss from the victim the passenger entered the vehicle and both suspects fled the area.

Approximately 15 minutes later officers located the vehicle in the nearby area and attempted a traffic stop. As the vehicle came to a stop the passenger, Alonzo Smith (18), ran from the vehicle and was taken into custody without incident after a short foot pursuit.

The driver of the vehicle, Ray Steward (18), was detained without incident. During a search of the vehicle officers located a loaded .22 caliber pistol, as well as loss from the robbery.

Smith and Steward were arrested and booked into the Kern County Jail for robbery, conspiracy, firearms violations and participating in a criminal street gang.
