Bill Wright Toyota confirms employee died after crash in southwest Bakersfield

UPDATE (12/13, 3:32 p.m.): The driver who was seriously injured in a crash in southwest Bakersfield on Tuesday has been identified.

23ABC has learned that the driver of the Bill Wright Toyota truck was Tim Pappas, Bill Wright Toyota confirmed. 

Pappas, 49, was in critical condition after colliding with another car on Wilson and New Stine Roads. He died around 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday, according to the Kern County Coroner's Office.

Bill Wright Toyota said Pappas was an employee there for 10 years.

Toyota posted a statement on Facebook saying they are deeply saddened by the news of Pappas' passing and their thoughts are with his family.

A man is in critical condition after a crash in southwest Bakersfield on Tuesday.

Bakersfield Police and Fire crews responded to the crash on Wilson and New Stine Roads on Dec. 12 just before 9:30 a.m.

Police said one of the vehicles involved, either a Bill Wright Toyota truck or a Dodge Challenger, ran a red light at the intersection. The driver of the truck was taken to the hospital and the other driver was not injured. 

The intersection of Wilson and New Stine Roads was closed for a couple of hours on Tuesday. 

Officials said alcohol and drugs do not appear to be a factor for the driver of the Dodge Challenger. The driver of the truck has not yet been evaluated for alcohol and drugs and is in critical condition.
