The Bakersfield Police Department wants to draw attention to National Teen Driver Safety Week happening between October 15 and October 21, 2017.
The week dedicated to keeping teens safe behind the wheel encourages parents to set rules for their teen driver before they put their cars in drive.
The Bakersfield Police Department does have programs put in place to help keep teen drivers as safe as possible when they're behind the wheel. One of those programs, A Life Interrupted, a presentation put on by the police department for drivers between the age of 13 and 19. The police department goes to local high schools and middle schools to put on the presentations.
There is also the Start Smart program, which is a driver safety education class that works to target new and future licensed drivers between the age of 15 and 19.
Other programs for teen driver safety include 15 Minutes, Impact Teen Drivers, among others.
