BAKERSFIELD, Calif. — There are currently no police officers on motorcycles here in Bakersfield after the department downsized the unit two years prior, but now, motorcycles are returning to the streets.
Bakersfield Police tell 23ABC that the motorcycle unit could be patrolling as early as May.
The officers that will be on the motorcycle unit will be the first since BPD phased it out back in May 2017. City officials told 23ABC that the reason they did away with the motorcycle unit was due to safety concerns and workplace injuries.
Officials say the department has four new Harley Davidson's that are ready to go, but some officers need to finish their training before hitting the streets.
