Bakersfield Police Chief Greg Williamson announced Friday he will be retiring from the police force at the end of the year, according to BPD public information officer Gary Carruesco.

Williamson has been the police chief since 2010. He is ending with seven years as chief and 27 years with the department.

City Manager Alan Tandy will hire the new chief. The application process will begin soon, starting from within.
