The Bakersfield Police Department held a driver's license and sobriety checkpoint Saturday night on Calloway Drive near Brimhall Road between the hours of 7 p.m. and 2 a.m.
A total of 1,678 vehicles were screened by officers. Four drivers were detained to be further evaluated to determine their sobriety influence level.
The Bakersfield Police Department Traffic Section arrested one driver for driving under the influence of marijuana and 16 drivers were cited for having no license or driving on a suspended license.
Funding for the checkpoint is provided by to the Bakersfield Police Department Traffic Section by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety, through the National Highway Traffic Section by a grant form the California Office of Traffic Safety through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
The public is encouraged to help keep roadways safe by calling 911 if they see a suspected impaired driver.
