The Bakersfield Police Department is hosting its annual BPD Memorial Run Saturday at The Park at Riverwalk.
The event is held to honor Bakersfield Police Officers killed in the line of duty.
They are honoring:
PATRICK DON VEGAS - Born March 17, 1945; Appointed as a Bakersfield Police Officer, August 6, 1969; End of Watch June 20, 1980.
WILLIAM L. SIKOLA - Born July 3, 1956; Appointed as a Bakersfield Police Officer, September 4, 1979; End of Watch July 17, 1983.
DAVID J. NELSON - Born November 16, 1988; Appointed as a Bakersfield Police Officer, June 24, 2013; End of Watch June 26, 2015.
DENNIS A. MOORE - Born December 15, 1969; Appointed as a Bakersfield Police Officer, July 7, 1997; End of Watch August 9, 2017.
All proceeds go to the Memorial Scholarship Fund for the children of our fallen officers.
There is a 2K, 5K and 10K race. Check-in is from 6a.m. to 7:45 a.m. The 2K starts at 8 a.m. followed by the 5K and 10K at 8:30 a.m.
Registration is open through Saturday and costs $30.
To commemorate their 35th anniversary, special edition finisher medals will be handed out. Winner medals will also be handed out to the top 3 finishers in each category plus law enforcement winners.
