BAKERSFIELD, Calif. — The Bakersfield Police Department is investigating a deadly hit and run crash in southwest Bakersfield that left one woman dead at the scene.

BPD received a call for a crash just before 7 p.m. Tuesday night.

When officers arrived they determined a vehicle hit a woman near the 400 block of Panama Lane and Betty Street, just east of Monitor St., and took off.

Officials said the woman was pronounced dead at the scene.

The investigation revealed she was crossing the roadway when she was struck by a vehicle described as a silver or white Mercedes sedan. Shortly after, she was struck by a second vehicle described as a red Chevrolet Silverado. The vehicles involved fled from the scene.

A suspect vehicle description has not been released at this time.

The investigation is ongoing. The victim's identity will be released by the Kern County Coroner at a later time.
