Man injured after he was struck by a vehicle in south Bakersfield

UPDATE: A man is in the hospital listed in critical condition after he was struck by a vehicle in south Bakersfield Wednesday night. 

Bakersfield police responded to Panama Lane, near Lowry Street where officers found a man who had been struck by a vehicle. 

The man suffered major injuries and was transported to a local hospital for treatment. 

BPD says the driver of the vehicle stayed on scene and is cooperating with investigators. Drugs, alcohol and speed do not appear to be factors in this crash. The investigation is ongoing.

Lanes are shut down on Panama Lane between Lowry St. and Monitor St. following a vehicle versus pedestrian collision. 

The Bakersfield Police department said they were called out for an injury crash at the intersection of Panama Lane and Monitor St. around 9:45 p.m. 

Officials said the pedestrian has major injuries. 

The driver remained at the scene. Police said they do not believe the driver was under the influence of drugs or alcohol. 

The investigation is ongoing.
