BAKERSFIELD, Calif. — The Bakersfield Police Department is investigating a vehicle versus pedestrian crash that left a 16 year old boy injured.
According to police, around 7:30 p.m. Friday officers were called to the area of Columbus Street near Rice Street for reports of a vehicle versus pedestrian crash.
When officers arrived on scene they found a 16 year old boy had been struck by a car and had moderate to major injuries. He was transported to a local hospital where officials said he is listed in critical condition.
Through their initial investigation, police believe the teen was crossing the street, outside of a crosswalk, when he was struck.
Westbound lanes were temporarily blocked while officers investigated.
Officials said speed, alcohol, and drugs did not appear to be a factor.
The investigation is ongoing, anyone with information is asked to call BPD at 327-7111.
