The Bakersfield Police Department’s K-9 Kyro has received a bullet and stab protective vest thanks to a charitable donation from the Kern Canine Activities Club.
Kyro is a 4-year-old Belgian Malinois who has been working with the Bakersfield Police Department since July 2014. He is cross-trained in narcotics detection and protection work. Currently, he is partnered with Officer Marc Lugo.
Kyro’s vest was custom-made in the USA by Armor Express in Central Lake, MI. The vest has a value of over $1,100, a five-year warranty and an average weight of 4-5 lbs.
The Bakersfield Police Department K-9 Unit is comprised of 13 K-9 teams, and there are an estimated 30,000 law enforcement K-9s throughout the United States.
