The Bakersfield Police Department and the California Highway Patrol are partnering with the Be The Match Foundation to hold a bone marrow drive.
The event was originally planned in hopes of finding a match for Sgt. Jorge Chavez of the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department.
Sgt. Chavez has since found a match, but the event is still happening in hopes of finding matches for others who need bone marrow transplants.
The event is happening at Yokuts Park (4200 Empire Drive) between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m.
The event is free and will also feature a variety of activities.
Members of the BPD SWAT Team, K-9 Unit, Bomb Squad, and McGruff will also be on display.
